Con Safe Sip

Cover your drink. Watch your friends.

A community safety initiative making drink protection easier to access at conventions, parties, and meetups.

What is Con Safe Sip?

Looking out for each other, one cover at a time

After a frightening situation at a convention involving someone close to us, we started Con Safe Sip — a small community safety initiative focused on helping congoers better protect their drinks.

Members carry individually packaged drink covers and offer them to people who need one at conventions, parties, meetups, and other social events. The goal is simple: make drink protection easier to access, encourage people to look out for each other without judgment, and hopefully prevent someone else from experiencing the same thing.

How it works

What members do

Spot the button, ask for a cover, and keep looking out for your friends.

  • Wear an official Con Safe Sip button so people can identify participating members

  • Carry their own supply of disposable drink covers

  • Hand covers out for free to anyone who asks

  • Encourage basic drink safety without judging or blaming anyone

  • Look out for people who may be disoriented, unusually impaired, or separated from their friends

Con drink safety

Look out for each other — never blame the victim

Getting drugged is never your fault. Not for what you drank, what you wore, who you talked to, or whether you used a cover. The only person responsible for drink spiking is the person who did it.

A few practical habits that can make conventions and parties a little safer for everyone:

  • Cover your drink when you can — and feel free to ask a Con Safe Sip member for a free cover
  • Don’t leave drinks unattended, and don’t accept open drinks from strangers
  • Stick with friends you trust, and check in on each other through the night
  • Watch for sudden, unusual impairment — in yourself or someone else — that doesn’t match how much they drank
  • If something feels wrong, trust that feeling. Get to a safe place with people you trust and get help
  • Never pressure anyone to drink, leave their friends, or “just finish” a drink they don’t feel okay about

Drink covers and testing tools are one extra layer — not a test of whether someone “did safety right.” Community care means believing people, helping without judgment, and making protection easy to ask for.

How to join

Become a member

Interested in joining? DM Lauren or Jibrii on Instagram to get started. We want the initiative to grow, but we also want to be careful about who is allowed to represent it. Safety comes first. Always.

  1. You must be vouched for by at least two existing members.
  2. You must provide your own drink covers to distribute. If existing members have extra supplies, we are happy to share!
  3. You must agree to give covers away completely free.
  4. You must never use the initiative to pressure, isolate, flirt with, or take advantage of someone seeking help.
  5. You must understand that the button identifies you as a participant, not as official convention staff.

Donations

Help keep covers free

Optional donations buy more drink covers, buttons, and supplies so we can keep handing them out and share extras with approved members. Nobody is ever required or expected to donate.

Important safety note

Drink covers help. They are not a guarantee.

Drink covers can reduce opportunities for tampering, but no product can completely prevent drink spiking. Covers and drink-testing products should never be treated as a guarantee that a drink is safe — and not using one is never a reason to blame someone.

If you believe you or someone else may have been drugged:

  • Stop drinking immediately
  • Stay with trusted friends
  • Contact convention security or venue staff
  • Seek medical help as soon as possible
  • Do not leave the person alone
  • Call emergency services if they are unconscious, struggling to breathe, having a seizure, or cannot be awakened

Con Safe Sip does not replace security, medical care, or watching out for your friends. It is just one more layer of protection, and one more way we can take care of each other — without judgment.
