What is Con Safe Sip?
Con Safe Sip is a community safety initiative focused on helping congoers better protect their drinks. Members carry individually packaged drink covers and offer them for free at conventions, parties, meetups, and other social events.
What does a Con Safe Sip button mean?
A button or sticker means that person participates in the initiative. It does not mean they are convention staff, medical personnel, security, or someone you should leave your drink with.
Can I leave my drink with a Con Safe Sip member?
No. Never leave your drink with anyone you do not explicitly trust. Con Safe Sip is here to provide materials and resources — we will not watch drinks for people.
How do I get a free drink cover?
Look for someone wearing an official Con Safe Sip button or sticker and ask. Covers are always free. You can also check the Members page and reach out on Instagram.
How do I join Con Safe Sip?
DM two existing members on Instagram to get started. Tell them your name, location, and what cons you frequent, and promise to uphold the integrity of CSS. If you need a button, we will need your address. You’ll need the endorsement of two members—once they’re on board, ask them to tell Lauren / Ruu and you’ll be added as a member!
Can I represent Con Safe Sip if I’m not a member?
No. Please do not represent Con Safe Sip unless you are a vetted member. Members carry official buttons or stickers so they can be identified, and you can check the Members page for confirmed members. We appreciate people wanting to help — and you’re always welcome to tell others about us — but to keep everyone safer, please don’t speak or act for the initiative unless you’re part of it. Likewise, don’t accept covers or anything else from someone claiming to be with Con Safe Sip unless they are a confirmed member.
Do drink covers guarantee a drink is safe?
No. Drink covers can reduce opportunities for tampering, but no product can completely prevent drink spiking. Covers and drink-testing products should never be treated as a guarantee that a drink is safe. Getting drugged is never the victim’s fault.
Does Con Safe Sip blame people who get drugged?
Never. Getting drugged is never your fault—not for what you drank, what you wore, who you talked to, or whether you used a cover. Con Safe Sip will never blame, shame, or second-guess someone who was spiked or who thinks they might have been.
Are donations required?
No. Donations are completely optional. Optional gifts via Cash App, PayPal, or Venmo help buy more covers and buttons. Please note your payment is for Con Safe Sip. See the Donate page for details.
What should I do if I think someone was spiked?
Stop drinking immediately, stay with trusted friends, contact convention security or venue staff, seek medical help as soon as possible, and do not leave the person alone. Call emergency services if they are unconscious, struggling to breathe, having a seizure, or cannot be awakened. If you have Narcan and someone may be overdosing, use it even if you’re unsure what they took — drinks and other drugs are sometimes laced with opioids.
